What this seat can and cannot do

One vote of seven, elected by the whole city. Four votes decide anything, so no single member can deliver an outcome and no single member can block one. This member cannot direct city staff, hire or fire anyone below the City Manager, amend the rent-stabilization act — that is in the city charter and only voters can change it — or vote on anything a school board decides.

What the seat can do is put an item on a future agenda with colleagues’ support, pull something off the consent calendar so it is discussed in public, and shape a precise plan while it is being written. Those are the three levers worth asking for.

Reading a voting record

This site does not summarise how any member voted from memory. Roll-call votes are attached to each item in Legistar, and the minutes for a meeting are the authoritative record of who voted which way. Where mtnview.info mirrors an agenda or minutes PDF, that copy is linked below the meeting it belongs to.

Bear in mind that this is a seven-member at-large body: a 4–3 vote and a 7–0 vote read very differently, and a member’s second on a motion is often as informative as the vote itself. A member who consistently seconds another member is telling you where the working majority is.

The rest of the Council

All seven members → — every one of them represents the whole city, so an item you care about is worth putting in front of more than one. Four is the number that matters.
